Novi Biotech — Chinese-Indonesian Business Bridge
Serving as the primary communication bridge between a China-based director and Indonesian-market execution — managing direction, feedback, and strategy across language and cultural context.
The practical challenge of this role wasn't translation — it was cultural interpretation. Chinese business communication tends to be directive and implicit; Indonesian professional communication tends to be relational and indirect. Bridging these two registers without losing intent or causing friction required constant real-time calibration.
A specific recurring challenge: the China-based director would give copy feedback in Mandarin that reflected Chinese consumer marketing conventions — confident, declarative, product-forward. The Indonesian target audience responds better to copy that's conversational, community-oriented, and non-intrusive. My role was to translate not just the language but the intent, and advocate for the local market perspective while keeping the director's vision intact.

PT Victory Utama Karya — Compliance & Liaison
Managing documentation, regulatory compliance, and onboarding for Chinese personnel in Indonesia — including visa arrangements, government agency coordination, and bilingual operational reporting.
This role required precision across both languages in high-stakes regulatory contexts — mistranslation of legal or compliance documents carries real consequences. I managed correspondence with Indonesian government agencies, translated regulatory requirements for Chinese personnel, and produced bilingual reports for management review.
Working closely with Chinese expats also required cultural fluency beyond language — understanding workplace hierarchy norms, communication preferences, and the specific sensitivities of Chinese professionals operating in an unfamiliar regulatory environment.
